Advice on a sand scoop.

I need suggestions on a sand scoop to hunt the wet sand and waters edge with. Looking to stay under $200.00....hoping that some of you experienced beach hunters can save me some money and aggrevation. Thanks.

Digger if you are talking about beach detecting with a Shark I'll save you time and aggravation. The picture is the angle handle but it's actually 90 degree. You can order it direct front chuck I just posted like because it was faster to copy and paste.

So the RTG scoops wont be so great to use with a PI in wet sand? I'm kinda new to the beach hunting.....just the occasional dry sand hunting with my ATP before now. I have just been using a aluminum hand scoop....

The PI's are very deep and you would be best served with a Stealth because of the huge bite it will take. When near the surf you want target in basket fast and you can let the water flush sand out the holes instead of spreading sand on shore. But try both methods to see what works. TH'ers 720i with the smaller holes catches many earring studs and smaller charms that your PI will find. Don't forget to add a magnet or two.

Diggerinva, overpriced with weak mesh back that is blocked to keep from bending the mesh. Avoid mesh except for dry sand.

I got this one off ebay a few years ago. I think it's a knock off of the stealth. It's very well made,and cost $99. Uses a posthole digger handle from the hardware. Last time I looked I could'nt find them again, so not sure if they still make em. I only use it in the water,and use wire basket kind in the sand.

Did you buy it new or used, it dies look like a stealth copy...

The Trex scoops are only 3-4 lbs without the handle. Very good scoops, as are the Sunspot stealth Scoops.

Here's a sea otter without the detachable handle. With handle the whole thing weighs just a little over 2lbs and is durable enough to have a 270 lb man stand on without caving in. Seen two people who just bought within minutes two of the orange handled scoops trade them back in once they caught sight of the otter. These scoops ate no joke and are made exceptionally well

RTG scoop looks like a toy... I'lm sure you can find something descent between an RTG and a Stealth scoop... Keep in mind also that a handle is required and not cheap ;-)

For 100-150USD you will find a good scoop...and it's a very important tool for detection. I prefer to have a good scoop and a lower quality detector then a super high end machine with a tea spoon to dig

lol...I literally stand on my RTG 6" Aluminum Water Scoop in heavy surf and it NEVER fails. A toy it is not...

I use the TRex 9.5 with a wooden shovel handle and a grab bar to assist in the pull. Using an Excalibur it's hard to really pinpoint exactly where the target is because the coil has a halo effect. The TRex makes short work. It also makes you buff so chic's will dig you as you dig targets. Personally I made an assist to use with the scoop. I bought a carpenter's leather belt from Home-Depot for 10.00, then bolted a U hook to it. While I walk the beaches (especially on the dry sand) it REALLY helps with fatigue. I just attach the shovel to the hook and let my hip bear most of the weight and not my upper body. Also it allows my carrying arm to rest and not be in an " over the shoulder carrying position" which causes me tennis elbow.

I'm pretty hard on scoops as I use it to pry rocks as well as heavy duty surf use. The Stealth 720i is the ONLY one I've had that will hold up. Comes with a lifetime guarantee too! I got one with the big holes throughout for faster sifting. If I need to locate an earring, I use my pin pointer.

That design doesn't look good to me. I don't think it would hold up to heavy use. Not enough gussets to keep the back panel from flexing and eventually having metal fatigue.

Give a try to a Stavra once, you'll be impressed. Simple &, well designed. I've seen many guys trying to use rebates scoops from ebay and local makers and just broke them a few weeks later.

It's a pleasure to have a good tool in hand.

Digger you're getting great info here. If you plan to be in the water a lot as others have said go for a scoop with a deeper and wider bite so you'll retrieve your find before water fills the holes and you're working twice as hard.
