I see them on Ebay and other sites. Has anybody tried them?

That's true for some detectors, but not all....some work best at the highest voltage.This explains the 1.5v NiZn rechargeable pros/cons as well as lots of other things..

MD need about 8.5 -9 volts so 1.2 is plenty as long as they they have a high storage capacity 2500-2700Mah
It's simply a matter of the chemistry. Alkalines use a different chemistry than LI, or NiMH. It sure would be nice if they all produced the same voltage, wouldn't it?Always been curious as to why the Nicads and Nimhs are only 1.2 volts. Can't they be designed with more capacity?
