Nice find!

Button spill? I've been thinking about how so many buttons got lost in the civil war. I did think that many buttons got lost by them falling off. I think most of them came from old clothing getting lost or thrown away. The wool or cotton decayed and left nothing but a pile of buttons.

Those look like Great Seal buttons... WW1 or WW2. Like Tabman said, I would assume that the garment disintegrated and "left" the buttons. Congrats!

im sure the whole jacket/shirt was just thrown out. a lot of trash in the ground there. its old property. a lot of nice finds there so far.
