Parks, fair grounds, picnic areas, old movie drive-ins, yards of homes, church grounds, city green spaces, town commons.

When in doubt, ask, but otherwise anywhere you can dig!

We just drove through Berks County and the homes and lots around Chadds Ford had me drooling. Ooodles of colonial stone and brick homes.

Also, check your County's website for parks.

Your yard with the manual in hand.

I agree. Learn your detector and how to dig a plug in your own yard. I found about $2 of clad in my front yard plus a 1992 St Patty's Day parade token and a piece of custom jewelry. I have a friend who found a Mercury dime in his yard. There is no telling what you might find up North. Once you are comfortable with your machine and digging, the world is your oyster.

What kind of detector are you getting?

Oh, and welcome to the forum!!!

Lots of good advice here so far. After you practice a little in your own yard, try something relatively easy and close to where you live. Tot lots are easy spots, especially if they use mulch to cover the area around the play equipment. Schools are another good place. Try to pick low traffic times so you won't feel self-conscious or attract as many lookie-lous. Happy hunting, hope you find a great score right off the bat :treasurechest:

Which detector?
Don't detect yur yard with a saltwater machine. ;)
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Local, county, state parks may require permits. The states forum here will help you, as will rules n regs.

I hunted about 75 hours total before finding my first item made of precious metal. It was a sterling silver ring found in a modern park.

It's addicting and pretty good exercise... it doesn't seem so until the next morning when you are sore all over from a 5hr session. Might right claw is bigger than my left claw.
