Went detecting in a lake for the first time about a week ago. Didn't find much, some junk rings, and clad and the usual trash. Wellllll, sorting through my trash there was a perfectly round disc that was pretty corroded and I though it was just junk. Showed it to my buddy and he started knocking some of the crud off. Smart buddy, it turned out to be a 1886 silver dollar. Not in great shape, but my oldest coin yet and a nice find. First pic is what it looked like in the pile of clad, second is after I cleaned it up a bit. Thanks for looking.

Easy, as in any price range detector will find one, even the low tech detectors of decades past, not that they are plentiful and we're tripping over them! The silver dollars lost in parks and schools were found a long time ago because even a Radio Shack detector could find one.

Looking at it... I can see "liberty" across the head. That coin might clean up with a bit of electrolysis. Just a thought...

Congrats on finding an epic coin. They are not found often, that's a true piece of treasure!

Welcome to the silver dollar club!

Interestingly, I found a 1887o morgan out of a lake in 2011. It's my only silver dollar and it's hammered, worse.

Grats to ya, thanks for sharing and HH ALL.
