I know what you mean, I can also have full 3 hour hunts that I just don't feel it......not in the grove.

Ahh yes, the "groove." I know this feeling well. It falls right in there with "hunches" and "feelings." We treasure hunters are sensitive beings,

I hope I feel that way Sunday!

I think all we are doing is switching gears, from being surrounded by sights and sounds of people, noises, cell phones, to listening to the beeps and whispers of our detectors and reading area we are detecting, figuring out what may have been there or where people sat, played, etc.

We are literally switching from one set of senses and sounds to another.
And if the switch doesn't go well or isn't complete, we don't do so well.

It takes me about 30 hours to get in the groove after a long winter.

You got that right. Some days I know that I'm not going to get into the 'zone' because I feel tired and wore out, so I load up and head for the house. When I feel good, I get into the zone right out of the gate.

It always amazes me while out detecting that five hours have passed and the only thought I've had is "Did I just hear the tone change?" No thoughts about those nagging chores at home, how hot it is, am I thirsty or hungry or how long the ride home will be. If the Gold Bug 2 or the Minelab 4500 are humming along perfectly, I only have to concentrate on the change in signal coming into my headphone. Maybe it's self-hypnosis or maybe self-delusion hoping for a "big one."
