That sounds sooo familiar. But, then again isn't the best time to go md-ing at the beach, after a major holiday :?: After all the masses condense together and carelessly loose their precious keepsakes, just to have us come by the next day and scoop them up. This post should be called "who found what the day after." 8) Unfortunately i had to work today. But, i look forward to reading and hopefully seeing what everyone else found.

3 quarters 3 pennies and 43 pull-tabs..... lol... I was searching for a lost pinky ring for a friend and the other matching one rang in the pull-tab range. So I had to dig all of them.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Well, I went out one my lunch hr. on tues. Found 1 nickle and 6 pennies on a beach that should have produced some good finds. Some other TH'er scooped me and got there ahead of me. I saw the tell tale signs with a round coil mark in the sand and strange horizontal footprints mixed with all the other foootprints. I couldn't believe that someone would have wasted their time on this beach when some really excellent beaches were available that day. Then went to another beach after work figuring that once again this one would not have been picked over so quick. WRONG!
I started hunting and once again saw the markings of another TH'er in the sand. By that time I was commited to staying there so I just continued on.
I did ok. Managed to find about $2.50 change and a really nice man's heavy silver chain that the other guy missed. HAH! That made the trip worthwhile. lol

    Beach and Shallow Water Hunting

    Payday!

Sunday (before Memorial Day) I went to a beach and hunted around a bit, finding little. Then a lifeguard told me about a woman who lost her husband's wedding band at one of the volleyball nets. He didn't know which one, and there were 9 in that area... a lot of sand to cover. I hunted for 2 hours and came up with a little change, and a silver ring, but not the hoped-for gold band.

Monday I went to another beach and hunted for a half hour-- dug 3 trash targets. Drag.

Then I collected my wits and decided to try a different spot. I hunted 2 and a half hours and got just shy of $11 in change, and one piece of jewelry-- a man's neck chain. I've found a few of those in the past-- usually silver plated junk, so I didn't think much of it. When I got home I was shocked  to see it was gold in color. Had to be fake-- I've never seen that big a chunk of jewelry that was real gold. It is stamped 14K in three places, but that is not always reliable as it used to be. :? But it weighs in at over 130 grams! So I've been checking the web-- Ebay has a similar chain for $10, marked '14K', but plated and it weighs only 53 grams. So I checked a gold dealer's site and found a similar size, style, length, chain weighing 132 grams-- on sale for $2300!!!

Just the melt value of 4.3 ounces 14K gold (works out to be 2.5 oz pure gold) at $350/oz spot is $875! 8)

Of course this particular beach is regularly hunted by at least 6 or 8 THers, but nobody was there when I was. They probably know of an even better beach somewhere else where gold is plentiful. I probably got stuck with the bitter dregs. But I won't complain!

bls here are a few important things to remember about being successful when hunting.

Many people expect their detector's to find them treasure, and loose hope when it fails to do so. Remember you are the one that must find the treasure, your detector is only a tool to help you pinpoint once you have the location. You can spends days/months/years hunting with the best detector out there and find nothing, if the places you look had nothing to begin with.

Without Re to begin with, search is often just a waste of time.
The real treasure is in the hunt....

    Memorial Day

Well, you weren't the only one stuck home on Memorial Day. It's already pushing 108f here (42c) so my season is mostly over.

Flags, flowers, 21 gun salute and ceremony at the National Cemetary... then to the American legion for another ceremony. Parades were cancelled because of the rain.

O.K. since I couldn't go out, who found what on Memorial Day

Had a barbecue on Memorial Day at home with my wife, kid, sister and her boyfriend. I thought about those who helped us be able to have such a nice day and their sacrifices for us. They were not forgotten. After all, I live in a military town. Alot of folks on this forum are probably veterans, but it is because of you (the veterans) 8) 8) that we are all able to go and spend Memorial Day doing what we like to do in the land of the free, the home of the brave. 8)
