Old Milwaukee Beer cans all the time.

"I'm from Milwaukee and I otta know, that BLATZ BEER tastes great wherever you go..."

Yea...Blatz was made in Milwaukee, not Old Milwaukee. So I found a lot more Blatz bottle caps there than any other.

Bottle caps !!! I have a high power magnet on my shovels and they stick right to it. I can flip them up in the air with my shovel and catch them.
I try to focus my hunt on nickels.

I can't say I dig too many pull tabs either so I guess the bane of my digging is stupid bottle caps.

It think they're always bone because at some point they were only a couple inches under the ground. That being said, if a tractor or a car were to run it over it would then crush the cap as well or atleast bend it enough to crack it. Or, in the winter months water would get between the insert and the lid and freeze causing the water to expand and then break the insert. Those are a couple theories that I have. So far I've only found 4 whole inserts and 1 lid good enough to use.

Agreed. The ones I dig never seem to have any glass around from the jars themselves. What do you think is the reason for that?

Cause they probably just threw them out. I find most of mine near tree bases. Maybe I'll do a study and talk to all the really old people (people in their 90s) and see what the reason is.

No doubt the ends off of pensils that hold the eraser.
Reads the same as a Nickle,57-58 on my t2 and gamma 6000.
And the middle school I went to in the early 70's is loaded with them,as we use to play pensil break.

Is that when you put it between your fingers and slap it on your leg?

Aluminum screw caps without a doubt. There are several parks that I hunt that I quit digging zinc penny signals because they are always them dreaded aluminum screw caps

I don't mind digging the pulltabs as I've gotten some nice surprises retrieving in that spectrum, but what drives me bonkers are the zinkies, especially around old houses that potentially have IHP's, as my machine can't tell the difference. In newer locations while hunting scads of clad, I'll discriminate them out, along with some gold I would imagine.

Sometimes I go out for a hunt and only bring back bags full of nails - nothing else. They are always square nails, but it's gotten pretty old.
