Get an 11" x 8" widescan coil for the Vaq and get back to it. You don't need another machine .

The one thing i love about my ATPro, is the ease in cleaning it after each outing. I just take it in the shower, and give it a good washing. Find yourself a ATPro, get the 5x8 and a NEL Tornado. You will have the best mid level machine, with Coils covering all areas of hunting.

Liu21 - I totally agree with you - have found a lot of clad & a few wheats with my AT Pro. Only had it since Sept 2015.

Atpro or the deus basic package fit in that range. Both are good machines and if your leery of purchasing a used machine would be a great new buy alternative. It amazes me the number of serious relic hunters that use the atpro as their go-to machine instead of units costing 3-5x as much. There are more versatile and dynamic machines out there but I'm sure you would not be disappointed with that purchase. Bonus is you can hit the rivers and streams in the summer with it.

If you do plan to search the wet sand i recommend a multifrequency machine, Minelab, Whites. However if that is not your plan the Vaquero is an excellent unit especially with the very simple minus ground balance mod, it is a very deep and fast machine.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I have been getting a lot of great feedback regarding the Minelab Safari. Any Safari users here or thoughts?

ATP - I hit a quarter at 9.5" using the stock 8"X11" coil and have only found mostly clad it cause of the area which I live. Been a great machine and Garrett will stand behind their products and their service is outstanding. You can even detect in the rain and water proof down to 10 feet.

Read what everyone has to say, then do your research. After you're satisfied go with your gut. If you don't you will always wonder why you didn't. In $500 - $1000 range there is a detector for every kid of detecting. I would go with an all around detector unless you're a beach and water hunter.
