I recently got permission from a landowner to metal detect on his property which includes a section that was part of Brownwood's World War II Camp Bowie in central Texas. A friend came with me to help dig and watch for snakes. We hunted for 2.5 hours and only covered a spot about 10 yards X 20 yards in size. I'm the one in the green cap. While we didn't find anything of great value, we had a good time and we have permission to go back anytime. As soon as the rain stops and the ground dries some, we'll go back and work the showers and latrine areas. The property is huge and much of it is the old camp so I have years of enjoyable detecting there to look forward to.

great post. Good pix. Good luck on your future hunts.

Those WWII soldiers , just coming out of the depression, often had a pocket full of coins for the first time (canteen pay money, their first steady paycheck, etc...). So you'll eventually find coins, no doubt. Ft. Ord near me was massive in the WWII buildup, and has given up hundreds of silver coins over the years. Around barracks, PT fields, etc...
