I have that exact setup and love it. My niece gave me a set of earbuds that came with her tablet and I have used them for 3 years on two different detecters with no problems. They have a inline volume control but it never has worked. It's not an issue for me, the volume seems just right the way it is. Hope this helps.

I prefer lightweight headphones to earbuds, they stay put far better than earbuds but are small enough to be much cooler than normal detector headphones. If you shop at a name brand discount store like Marshalls or TJ Max you can pick up good set for under $20.
