At the computer and should be coding, but got detecting on the brain. Oh well.

This is very generalized. I like to visualize and it helps a little. I don't think I have all variables - there's the terrain, for instance. What else?

Moisture, wet soil allows for more of a halo effect than dry earth.

Thanks - Good input. The order is difficult...the funnel chart may not be the best mechanism. Different locations could have different "% Loss" at each step of the funnel potentially changing the order.

Masking is definitely way up there for a lot of sites but mineralization, "difficult to dig" ground, etc., might be a problem elsewhere. And, yeah, you'd want to split them up in whatever format the chart was in.
