Snakes still out; (

Went out behind my house today to do a little exploring and quickly found out the 40 degree nights still aren't cold enough to run these suckers off. There are some old foundations back there but guess they will have to wait till it gets a little colder.

I spray painted a snake blue yesterday in our tree fields just to watch him slither away.

I'm just ready for it to stay cold. Didn't notice any ticks but the snakes seem to be making their last rounds

This is mating season for many snakes. Also, a concrete slab will hold heat. Therefore, cold-blooded varmints like snakes will tend to hang out there during periods of cooler temps. The ground also acts as a heatsink, but a snake would get more heat for a while from the concrete.

I don't have any concrete around except what is in the blocks but we do live on a mountain with lots of massive boulders to sun on and stay around

Well in my neck of the woods the cotton mouth, copperhead, and timber rattler are very aggressive snakes that you could walk by and they would lunge at you.

"Silly" That must be code for ignorant fool. What kind of person paints a wild animal? If you painted a bunny or kitten, they would arrest you. Is harming a small animal, for your amusement, one of your hobbies? Why would you admit to something like that? Would you like someone to spray pain YOU? I have some spray paint.

In my part of the world, timber rattlesnakes are not aggressive at all. A couple times as I approached closer to get a photo, the darn snakes crawled under rocks. Meaning, they were afraid of me. A couple years ago, on a group hike, another person walked several times past a coiled up timber rattlesnake which was about 3 ft. away. The snake never struck. The whole group of hikers stood by the snake and it never struck. The only time in these parts when a rattlesnake was aggressive is when it's being picked up and then it will strike. Timber rattlesnakes are very common here, thanks to the fish commission protecting them. This is a great area for hiking and there are never any reports of anyone being bitten.

Problem is here all of them are aggressive this year. We haven't had a winter to speak of in the last two years so everything basically stayed the same all year around. Heck even my persimmon trees are confused what time of year it is

I'd rather trade stinks I can't go out and not have to worry about them. Right beside my house is a old home place that is just a few stones and two yucca plants. I haven't gone over there since I chased a water leak up the hill a month ago and had a timber rattler shaking it's tail at me when I walked past it

i used a paint pen and drew the vw logo on a big black beetle and released it back outside. does that count as harming a small animal? lol

It probably counts, how about half credit, for a good effort?

It just bothers me that people mistreat animals for their amusement. Just because someone is scared of snakes, that does not make it OK to harm them. The snake is small and the person is large, doesn't it seem odd to pick on something so much smaller than yourself? I believe it is a flaw in the personality, it makes people feel big to exert their force on something that can not defend itself. JMHO sir.
