Size? Weight? Application for what your looking to pick up? A roofing nail magnet/stick may suit the bill. A hard drive magnet or neodynium rare earth would be good as a small but strong setup if your looking for something like a pinpointer to fish nails from holes.

Small items found around old farm places. Nails, wire, bolts, nuts,,, stuff like that.

There are a couple of old home places that have been in my family for over a century. I am going around them and digging stuff up.
