My question was about a machine i saw on ebay trying to figure the conmen out as it were I asked about the country of orgin this was the reply

BTW Minelabs, Whites, Bounty Hunter, and Fisher are all made in China too!

It's a modified copy of a Fisher 1236X-2 (£450)machine).

I got to tell you it made me think do you think it could be true

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the components weren't made in china. But you can go to the bank with the fact that quality control is much better than in China. Someone else may know for sure, but doesn't the Fed raquire labeling of goods imported with something like "made in China"? Monty

Parts maybe, but Whites are made in Sweet Home Oregon.
And I know that Fisher is made in the USA, and that Minelab is made in Australia.

If its been modified, I would not trust it....

These websites may clear up the confusion.

http://www.whiteselectronics.com/ (Check out the words in the upper right corner.)
http://www.garrett.com/ (Check out the waving flag below the Garrett logo.)
http://www.detecting.com/ (Didn't see anything about being Made in America, so perhaps the ebay vendor is correct about BH.)
http://www.tesoro.com/About_Us.html (I admit I didn't read the whole story, but it seems to me that this company makes its own machines in Arizona. Their spin-off companies may not, but I'll leave that for others to determine.)

I couldn't get the Fisher website URL to copy and paste.

Hope this answers some questions.

Good work stoney. (I just this week learned how to copy and paste these things. duh!)

I think a person should send an email directly to the company and ask them straight out where they assemble their machines and where the component parts are manufactured. I want to buy American whenever possible and would avoid buying my next machine from a company that didn't employee American workers at every stage of manufacture.

I admire your character and patriotism TT, but it's almost impossible to shop and buy only good old USA any more. I remember old Sam Walton would only sell Made In USA at one time , but had to stop to remain competative. I'm seeing a whole lot of items, especially clothing that is made in Sri lanka, India, and other places you never even heard of. Every time I see those labels I picture a sweatshop with small kids making those things. I know not all are like that in reality, but a whole lot are. I don't know how you would ever be able to determine which is which? It's vexing all right. M :P nty

Oh you are so right, Monty. So much of what I buy is made elsewhere, but I still try to buy American whenever possible. I just ordered myself some undies from Penney's and read the label: "Assembled in Mexico." Made me most unhappy.

It's up to the American manufacturers to make quality products at reasonable prices. I suspect most Americans would still buy American-made products, even if they cost a little more, if they knew their purchases would employ other Americans. One way they could save money and pass the savings on to comsumers -- eliminate the "press 1 for English" baloney. :D Those bilingual employees have got to cost businesses more than a plain spoken English-only customer service rep.
