I found a similar one a few years back. Everyone that I had heard from seemed to agree that it was mid to late 1800s.

Dating Axe heads is tough because the forging methods have been the same for at least 800 years//
the body of the axe is soft iron , folded over to form the eye and than hammer welded to a steel bit for a cutting edge.
The typical demise of an old axe is when its used as a hammer--the soft iron cant take it and buckles out of shape//
or splits as in your case// Perry
