Can you post the other side. It would only take the slightest amount of detail to confirm whether it's British or Irish George III. Here is how it breaks down if British.

You can clearly see the the "III" which I marked, and also the "O" in the word GEORGIVS. This tells us it's King George III. For King George III halfpennies there is 3 possibilities.... The early issued ones that date 1770-1775, then one in 1799, and the last that date 1806 & 1807. When you look at the position of the "O" in comparison to the "III" this eliminates the 1799 as the "O" starts lower on that coin. So that narrows it down to 1770-1775 or 1806 & 1807. Now look on your coin at the letter "O" ... if you look even closer - and this can be clearly seen in the picture, you can see the "GI" that follows. These two letters are closely spaced so that can include or exclude the 1770-1775 coins as they vary based on the high % of halfpennies that were counterfeit, however, for the 1806 & 1807 issued halfpenny the G and I are wider spaced and they were very rarely counterfeited, which basically excludes that as being your coin. So based on all that I don't see how it could be anything other than a 1770-1775 British king George III Halfpenny... with the exception of Machin's Mills, which were American made coins to look like British halfpennies, but it wouldn't make sense to discount what is most likely in favor of is very unlikely. When in poor condition people always default back to what is common, the British halfpenny.

Coins! Nice Finds, but
take care on cleaning that crusty old coin,
if you do....!
Looks like a George III coin..., but can't id if the bust facing left or right,
I'm going by the (obverse?) face of the coin - seems like lettering in the 1 or 2 o'clock position,
has the III in it....however,
Let us know when you finally get to see really what it is...! Thanks!

Just need the smallest amount of detail because British and Irish are very different.
