So I was hiking up and around the East Fork, Azusa canyon a few weeks ago (not prospecting) and I saw a guy across the river, by the campground at the end of the fire road up on the side of the mountain metal detecting...and I mean he was way up there. Every now and then, we would stop and dig and it seemed he would find something because he would put what ever it was in a small bag.

I was thinking this may be a good tactic as well as change up my MD game....of course safety comes first but is seems to me that the gold down by the river had to come from somewhere, I think I will give this a try after the holidays...any thoughts about going off the beaten path and detect the side of a mountain?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Not all of it makes it down the hill. Bet with all the fires some slides might bring some down too.
