Hi guys, I'm new to this. I found a lead toy horse on a roman field but I'm unsure if this is that old. Any help appreciated.

I detected on and off since the early 70s but really didn't have a real chance to detect during the early years because of a 60hr/wk profession and life, in general, got in the way. Now that I'm retired, I can detect 2-3x all day per week and absolutely loving it. Metal detecting touches a nerve in me for exploration and discovery. And, really, what can be better than walking down a beautiful beach or in the water all day observing the many beautiful scenes from birds, fish, shells, clouds and, of course, beautiful people and hearing a beep once in a while that signals an exercise plan of digging sand and discovering what is inside the scoop - junk or gold. Now that is a happy retirement that actually pays a dividend. Enjoy!

It is most likely from the 1930s. They were very popular in the US from the late 1920s to the 1950s... when plastic took over.

Edit: I believe you may be in Europe, if so, that could be older, but not Roman, if solid lead, maybe late 1800s.

Hi Tom thank you for taking the time to reply. Yeah it's solid, so you're probably correct at somewhere in the 1800's . I just love randomness of this hobby.

Solid doesn't at all mean older. There were lead toy casting kits from the 1930s and even later that cast solid lead toys. Commercial companies made lots of hollow ones, but the kits for making your own still made solid ones.

Hi Steve, it is a modern lead toy anywhere from 1800s to 1960s....Heres some I have found over the years including an almost complete set of bands men.....HH...Bonz
