More 1812 stuff.

I have nothing new to post so I am showing some of my collection of 1812 goodies, weather is not co-operating right now, cant wait to get out again the group of balls are all "buck shot" this was a practice by the US army to fire what was termed "Buck and ball" this would make the surgeons job much harder....Bonz

That is a great collection of military relics, were they found on several sites or the same site? I see a couple of shoe buckles there. Was there an earlier occupation on the site, or is it strictly War of 1812? I ask because it is generally accepted that shoe buckles were out of style by 1800 and I have never seen a War of 1812 soldier with shoe buckles. Last question, what are the lead horse shoe shaped pieces?

1812 finds some answers.

The two oval shapes are US cross plates both found about 8 feet apart along with buttons and tools for musket rifles...The lead items are wraps for flints to stop them breaking during firing. Yes the site does go back before 1812 so some of my buckles could be older/newer not a good buckle guy.
Really want this snow to go away looking for a thaw......HH....Bonz
