IMG_1635.JPG Any idea how old this snake buckle is? It doesn't look like snake buckles used in the civil war. I've seen some online from the UK but not sure if mine is from the uk. Probably Asia? Any help is appreciated. IMG_1633.JPG

I haven't seen this particular one. Most were 19th to 20th century and British troops used them in WWI.

Was found in central California back in 2005. The area is 1850's. The buckle looks like a seahorse to me.

Nice going. Rare find for CA. In my 40+ yrs. of md'ing here in CA, I think I've only found 2 or 3 of those.

Yes they are rare in California. Had to dig mine out of the junk box where it sat for 12 years. Are your snake buckles civil war or post medieval?

Well, based on the sites I recall them coming from, they'd be somewhere in the Gold rush (1850s) to CW era (1860s).

Thanks for the replies.
Snake buckle was one of those finds I wanted to toss away because I thought it was junk. After giving it a closer look it was something different.
