Is there a reason a pulse detector won't hit on a thin gold chain. Found one on surface next to other target, but ATX would not pick it up. Took the chain home and tried the Dual Field - no response. Used the Gold Bug 2 and it went off like a 1 oz nugget.

Tried every setting on both machines. Will only VLF machines hit this type of target?

Thanks for your comments.

Heck, MOST VLF machines won't hit it either! The machine see's the chain as one of its small links, not the whole chain. Most detectors will hit on the clasp, not the chain. Perfectly normal. :skullflag:

Pulsed coil trying to find tiny coils interlinked. NO GO.

They are tough on most machines. I have the ATP, CTX and Excal and it all depends on how deep, how its oriented, karat wt, etc. Of my 3 machines, the excal seems to hit them the best.

Thanks, Terry. Enjoyed watching the video. I wondered why I never found any small chains at the beach.

It was 3.4 grams of 14K, sitting on the surface. I tried putting the pulse detectors on top of it with no response. Guess I'll search the volleyball courts with GB2.

I would be very interested to see what a HF Coil on an XP Deus would read over a gold chain ‘in the wild’

Most detectors will not see a gold chain unless it has A. charm, B. large clasp, C. curled up in a tight ball.

Not disagreeing with you Treasure Hunter just helping the discussion out and letting my fellow members know that we do have archives that they can lean on in the future.

Cheers

There is an Italian detectorist that put the Excalibur2 head to head with a CTX3030 on a larger gold chain.
His video work is choppy but you can tell what he is doing by the feedback the machines give back.

Looks like the CTX was able to detect the chain at close range and the Excalibur2.
could not.

Not choosing sides just giving more info to the conversation .

Cheers

Excal is picking up the clasp, he also has his excal threshold way too loud, it will drown out faint hits.

The CTX hits on the links not the clasp. Agreed on the threshold.

Gold Chains are tough. Any one of my machines will pick up Gold but in the form of a small outstretched chain, it becomes very very difficult.
