Where do you search a beach

I am making a trip to Florida over Christmas and will be near some beaches. I have very little to no experience on salt water beaches. Would like to hear from everyone on where to search? Near the waters edge or at the high tide mark or wear everyone sits around on there towels? Will be using a White MXT. Thanks in advance for any input.

Whites has a book written by Clive Clynick that talks about hunting beaches. He uses a XLT, and it has XLT programs in it. But he still has a section or two on hunting beaches, what to look for and where the best area to hunt is.

The towel line is good but the sand doesn't move very much unless you have a major storm. So if other MD'ers were / are there, there might not be much left. Low tide, as far out to the water you can get is your best bet, shifting sands cover and uncover things daily. ALWAYS search a cut in the sand!!! --^-- kind of a crude example but things will collect in the cut. AND, don't go back and "do it later", chances are it won't be there when you get back.... Another good place is just below the "shelves" that are left from the waves hitting the same place over and over. Of course, after a MAJOR STORM, cover as much area as you can!!!

I use a Whites MXT also and I have found it easier to use and have had great luck with it. My MXT has found well over $100 in clad, a couple rings, silver, and a whole lot of other stuff this year in only about a dozen or so times out and most of that was from my kids detecting!

By the way, I purchased mine from my Whites dealer here locally. If you have a Whites dealer near you, you might check with them and they just may have it in stock. I hate ordering stuff and then having to wait for it. HH. Scotty
