Well just like everything good in life everything must come to a end. It’s been verified in the rules of the park that metal detecting is not permitted. I had a great 4 year run and must move on.....plus they told me to get out.
I told the guy I’ve been detecting here for 10yrs and he said, ”Well I hope you had a good run” lol The End

With the heat and humidity this summer might be the perfect time to start water hunting. A friend I meet on TNet is a diving instructor and said he’d teach me the ropes. To my surprise he said the bad thing is once you water hunt these rivers you never go bad to land....we’ll see.

Well that sucks, man. But on the brighter side, this might let you expand your horizons a little. They say necessity is the mother of invention. Well, that, and Frank Zappa.

But seriously. Get you a good sand scoop (I got the Stealth 920ix with carbon fiber handle) and hit the beaches where people swim. It seems the human species, no matter how often they're reminded that it could happen, always seems to lose every bit of jewelry they own when they swim.

I've even known people to get scuba tanks and clean out those real deep swim holes in creeks and find a small fortune in jewelry. Again, a good sand scoop will be your best friend.

I have to ask why all the sudden no more detecting ? Do other people detect there ? Did they give you a reason ? What about the curb strip public property ? Seems weird after ten years to just say no more . I stay out of our parks until right before winter so it is to cold for anyone to care and the plugs blend right back in with spring . I have the feeling that if I was at the park all the time and people started complaining just to complain the same would happen here .

I was confronted by a park ranger last week. Basically told me the same. I can detect but no digging in the grass.
Kinda pissed him off when i said "OK no problem" and moved into the park tot lot. But he left me alone.
Like you , i'v been dong this park or years. But im not to upset, all the easy pick'ins are gone . I also started more beach hunting. My detecting buddy reminded me that i live in a tourist town with a huge beach.

One thing I did hear was someone jumped the fence of a old fountain part of the park that’s gated at night and messed up some tubing for the sprinklers system.

I myself had a liberal Uptown lawyer type from Tulane yell at me JESUS CHRIST!! twice ( while continuing to run of course) at me and the told the park police on me. I spoke with them and they said no problem because it was allowed that was 6 mos ago. One of them even showed me a good spot where a stable was in the 20’s.

But I think the night digger took it over the top

Me to I was there at 5:45 A.M. the only problem is that when a lot of people run and it’s very liberal part of town know. It’s mainly the people not the workers, the lawn guys wave to me all the time. It’s the ones that when they see my opening a plug with my lesche they see it a stabbing Mother Earth and I’m serious. Bunch of crazies out there.

Yeah, I've stopped carrying even a garden trowel in city parks because I suspect it might project the wrong image and I'd hate to get shut out. I now use a 4" screwdriver as a probe/popper, a folding knife to quickly slice the occasional small turf slit, and a sharpened short bricklayer's trowel (like the ones archaeologists use) if I have to dig in dirt or leaf litter (I no longer dig grass - it's just getting too dry here). The archaeologist's trowel seems to send a different message than a gardening knife or trowel. Plus, it's actually a really good tool. If I wanted to dig a flap with it, I could.

I too hit the public parks early in the morning, especially those with rec centers and staff attached. And, I tend to make it a point to give a friendly acknowledgement to the passers-by; most of them are running or walking laps anyways so some sort of social contact seems appropriate since we'll probably be sharing the park for a while. If they ask, I always emphasize that I'm pulling out more trash than treasure, which is, sadly, always the truth!

Sorry for your loss. I've got one sorta like that but haven't been told no yet and it's next to city hall. The city grounds keeper watched me from a distance on one accation and told me I did good covering plugs. One Saturday the mayor pulled up in his truck to tell me how proud he was of his park. I told him how proud I was of it too. He said just cover your plugs and drove off.

Awe you’re good. And thank you. Our problem down here is everything old I’d deep and when we don’t have rain for a week our clay dries up and crumbles bad. So you have l large chucks like rock and smaller pieces and you have to go 8”+ no one can make it look the same. It would be like putting a jigsaw puzzle back together it’s impossible but when it rains the plugs come out smooth like Butta.

ah...... buy a white plastic type hard hat and a mesh orange vest … that way you look like a city worker -- if any busy body types try to chat -- just say "sorry I can't talk right now, I'm very busy and I have got to get this done today "... of course you never ever say your anything to do with the city or any "official group" --just let the busy body types "think" you are ...on the hat you could print "historical electromagnetic specialist" ,,, its total nonsense but hey their stupid normally 99.99 % of the time
