When I was doing my PhD studies in Turkey I used to hear this a great deal, especially when I needed access to a certain archive.

This does not mean anything close to what most are thinking it does.

I grew up in an old timey Southern family, and have heard the term used.

A childhood acquaintance had a dog that would bark and run to the back door, if you used the term. His owner had taught him to do so, there was no political correctness in the 1960s.
