Couple weeks ago I was detecting the field inside the horse track at the local fair grounds, I noticed a guy walking the track and thought " awe man gonna have to talk to this guy " didnt really want to be bothered just wanted to detect, but as he got closer I said hello and he asked if I was finding anything well we got talking about how I like to find the old stuff and he said well when I was a kid ( him being around 70) we used to watch the football games right over their, I of course was like where exactly are you talking.... Now the high school with the football field was built in the 60's so Iv often wondered where the original field was... So fare I'v gotten one merc and 8 wheats out of the general area and hardly put a dent in the area at hand. Be nice to the local yocals and you may be rewarded...

Talking to the old timers can be informative as to where some of the older sites are. Problem for me is that I'm one of those "old timers" (73) so I have no one to ask any more.:laughing7:

Years ago I had a local yokel come up to me while I was metal detecting a country church.
We exchanged "hellos" and he stood there for awhile watching me .... not saying a word.
Finally he spoke up and said his brother had one of them "things".
I asked if he knew what brand it was and he said he didn't know.
All he knew was that it was...... GAS POWERED !:laughing7:

Do not underestimate the power of tea time with the old timer locals. You can gain much from it. Be sure to bring cookies though....
