If it's just me , then it's a couple diet pepsi's and a pack of chewing gum .
If wifey goes , then it's a cooler with drinks , chips , candy bars....etc :)

I like an Italian-inspired picnic with Pan Bagna
(a whole-meal sandwich stuffed with cured
meats, cheese, and vegetables, and drenched
in vinaigrette). I accompany it with baby artichokes
and finish off with Tiramisu.

Or I take along a beautiful Salad Nicoise with a crisp
baguette and an Apricot Frangipane Tart.

Perhaps Greek-style wraps with tzaziki, served with
stewed green beans and a tray of baklava?

And don't forget something good to drink, whether it's
a cold bottle of summery white wine, a flavored iced tea
or a special fruit punch.

have a good un........

Vinnie's and Nabs, as per Harry and Charlie Bassmaster stories. If it is a hot summer, RC cola & a Moon Pie.

Geez Sherm, I need to upgrade my snacks to your level. Maybe then I won't get so many stares.

I carry a shovel, a trowel, and pinpionter in my left hand, and I wear a pouch with a towel and a tin to keep good stuff (remember, silver coins will start to tarnish as soon as it is exposed to air, so by putting them in a tin with paper towels will limit the tarnish) and my trusty DFX in the right hand.

TreasureHunter,

I'm usually not out in the field in really hot weather,so this is how I do it: I carry a Swedish military stove that burns alcohol. I carry MRE's or store bought foods that are similar. I take two or three bottles of water and a coke or two. I dump some of the water in the cook pot and heat the food in their unopened containers and make coffee in the water at the same time. When the water boils for a few minutes the food is hot so I eat it right out of their container. (No dirty pots or mess). Why do I do this? I'm a camp stove collector and also an old ex U.S. Army Green Beret. Joe

The standard fare used to be a summer sausage, a chunk of cheese and a bag of trisquets, My partner likes these new MREs and I keep one in my pack as an emergency Just in case thing. if I have a spontaneous trip that wasn't planned I'll just grab a handfull of the Austins cheese crackers and peanut butter packs and head out with my camera and pack, simple and easy. after all the object is not to rat but to explore.

Just an add on but the reason I didn't mention water is I figured it is a given.
The pack I wear is a camelback.
