Hello everyone,
Newer to all the ins and outs of metal detecting. I found two civil war era buttons and cleaned them with water and a little soap. Is there anything else I should put on them after to preserve? Or just leave them as is? Also, what are some techniques to clean them well but safely?

Jeez...I've destroyed many by cleaning them to destruction...they can be very thin stamped brass so cleaning coin style is a no-no
Remember...most military ones are hollow an extremely fragile..
Approach with caution..
Brush lightly..olive oil soak till metal re-hydrates..softly. Polish with clean cloth...less is more
