Metal detecting in a film - "Vacation in Reno" from 1946

This little film was shown on the TCM (Turner Classics Movie) cable channel on May 9, 2020.

It shows the use of a military mine detector as a metal detector to locate precious metals.

This 60 minute comedy film was produced by the RKO Studios and released on December 10, 1946.

Jack Haley plays Jack Carroll who visits a war surplus store and buys an unusual vehicle and an electronic device to detect land mines (underground explosive devices).

Later, he heads to Reno with a treasure map to use the mine detector to locate the buried treasure.

All sorts of things happen in the film, including a bank robbery, a suspicious wife, a second wife, pies being thrown, etc, followed by a happy ending.
