can you tell me what this is?

found in my back yard in Central NY, previously a pasture in the 1960's, a public school from 1900 to 1940, a military academy type boarding school, and a regular boarding school founded in 1799.Click image for larger version.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
