White’s 6000 Di Pro SL - Thrift Store Sale

So the Thrift Store our church supports has this detector for sale. Looks like some accessories/manual in the Dillard’s bag as well. I think I can get it for $50-$100 as they price all their items low. I have a Garrett AT Pro. Is the White’s considered a superior or inferior detector compared to my Garrett? Deal or no deal? Thanks!

$50 would be a good price for that wall-hanger. Theres not superior brands, different models are made for different specialties or generalizations. That detector was the top of the market for its day. If it still works, it is a more than capable detector, but dont fool yourself into thinking it can even hold a candle to modern mid-range detector performance. Its also a beast to swing. I used one for many years, but I wouldnt use one again today unless just for nostalgia.

I agree Jason, I started out with a Garrett ADS III in '82 or so, the the Whites DI pros got all the press at the time, so I was so addicted to the hobby and I had the money (think it was around $600 at the time) so I jumped on the Whites as well. Because it was a "motion" detector, had to swing it hard for better discrimination. Sure cranked my elbow pretty quickly, so I had to quit swinging it.
