Metal Detecting in Costa Rica?

I'm going to Costa Rica at the end of June for a business trip. We'll be mainly on the much undeveloped Caribbean side. I was wondering if anyone knew of any laws or regulations on Metal Detecting in Costa Rica.

Also, has anyone had any experiences with taking their detectors along? Any risk of getting them confiscated, etc. I'm contemplating buying a cheaper detector to take along than my GTI-2500.
