Orange clay and/or high mineralized soil? I live in Central Virginia and there is a lot of orange clay where I MD at. I was wondering which MD is the best for this kind of soil/dirt. I was told that White's is really good, is that true? I currently use a Garrett ACE 250 and haven't found anything but old shotgun/rifle casings & nails. If the ACE 250 is good enough, I will keep it and keep plugging along. The price range that I'm looking at is $500-900. Thanks.

Your Ace 250 might not be up to the task because you have a set ground balance. Normally your Ace would do the job, it just wouldn't get as deep as a detector you can manual ground balance.

Since you are finding shell casings and nails, I'd say you just haven't put the coil over any good targets. Try it in your yard on a clean peice of ground and lay down some coins, pull tabs, etc. and see where they read. Then hunt where people have been.

Good Luck,
