I did a little air test with my Tejon to see just how much we all might miss.

Just a little ring I happen to have handy.
It's platinum and weighs 4.6 pennyweight (almost a 1/4 oz. with about a 1/2 carat total diam. weight)

Where do you think the setting (All Metal to Max Disc) was when I quit getting any peep at all?

If you guessed anything above foil, you're dead wrong. Even a hair above the foil setting, it went silent. Just a little something for you to keep in mind.

Nice ring!

Stoney, thanks for the post...

I get frustrated digging tabs, slaw, and foil and turn up the discrimination, and click on the notch.
It obviously doesn't pay...

Must start a new campaign and see how many tabs and how much foil I can find!

and that is why there are few platinum items found. I would think everyone of us has a one time or other passed over a piece of platinum jewelry and never knew it.

I don't think I have, but then I never turn my discrimination past iron (usually even keep it lower than that), because in relic hunting depth is the name of the game and you lose depth with discrimination.
