Hi to all I am new to this forum and new to this PC stuff so please be patient with me I only have one finger that works.I would like your feedback on selecting a detector for first timer. I have research on the net and most of the forum all winter here in Maine. Now here is my choice and why...light weight...no meters...no screen...life time warranty with in price range. I have elbow and vision problems have chosen the Tesoro Eldorado what say you please. Sorry for being so long and mouthy. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul sounds like a well thought out decision. The Tesoro line is possibly the best in the price/performance ratio. What sort of detecting do you see yourself doing? If you have some physical limitations, might I suggest starting out in loose material such as playground woodchips, sand and gravel?

These are the easiest mediums to navigate in when learning a new machine and you might be surprised at how rewarding they can be! Good luck and let us know what you find.

I am partial to Whites products, so you can take my advice or cast it aside, but I believe the Tesoro Eldorado would be a good machine, but it is missing a pinpoint feature that is real handy in pinpointing a coin or target. It also lists for about $470.00 msrp. I would have chosen a Whites Classic III, it has all the fearures of the Eldorado, plus a larger coil, (9.5) and freq. shift, auto ground balance, pinpoint trigger, all metal mode at the flip of a switch, also will hunt for up to 70 hours on a set of batteries, compared to the 15 to 20 hours of the Eldorado, plus it lists for about a $120.00 less money. Whites has a 2 year guarantee, and Tesoro has a lifetime warranty. The Classic III weighs approx. 2.9 lbs to 3 lbs, the Tesoro weighs about 2.7 lbs +/-. I know the Classic III is a good detector, and can use different size coils on it also. Its a turn on and go machine. The Tesoro has to be ground balanced each time. Just my humble opinion you asked for. HH Scotty

I just got a new Whites MXT, it is very easy to get used to. Its called a turn on and go, but it has severial chooses you can make for different ways to hunt. I think it would be worth your time to check it out. This is my first unit and I have already made some finds on coins and relics. Go to findmall.com/mxt and you can read some more experianced users posts. I know its not a lifetime warranty but Whites doesnt need it. HH

Thanks for your input and info on the White MXT. Went to Findmalls web page and checked it out great site. Printed out some of the info on a couple of metal detectors to put in my comparison book.Maybe I shouldn't worry about the warranty at my age. Still got frozen ground here and a fresh 8" of snow so just more time to keep looking for info.

Again A BIG THANKS PAUL-Me.
