Suggest you visit the different manufactures websites to see what is with in your price range. Stick to the major brands like Whites, Minelab, Garrett and Tesoro.

Pa has a lot of unique ground conditions..as i'm sure lots of states do.

Mostly in the area i'm in, the ground seems to be fairly neutral with a metal detector. I have encountered some heavily mineralized ground tho and I hear coal country can be a real bear with hot rocks.

Minelabs and Whites seem to work with ease in this state...good automatic ground balancing in either machine. I know White's has some good machines in your price range. i can't comment on the Minelab's prices.
