Important aspects of DIY coils - Garrett ACE

Hi.
I have built rudimentary metal detectors and finally bought a Garrett ACE (Auditory Canal Extermination) 250 ;)

Having located a diagram of the standard coil on this machine, it appears to have two coils, with the receiver split into two with an adjuster.
It lists the resistance and inductance of the coils too.
Has anyone reading this successfully wound their own coils for, or similar to these Garret ones?
Is the inductance or resistance (or both) important to maintain when winding a larger or smaller coil?

I really can't afford to spend almost as much as the detector itself again!
Would like to build a sniper and larger DD coil. Think I have sourced the right plugs, already have good cable.

I do have an oscilloscope, an accurate inductance meter, multimeters and all that jazz to try and get things good.
Cheers.
