If you're talking about the little button thingys you push to extend or retract the shaft,
I had someone tell me last week or so, you can salvage them off of old crutches and walkers.
Said the stainless and/or surgical steel ones don't rust quite as bad in our salt water.

You just need to make the straight shaft , the lower rod connected to the coil has a spring clip in it!

I know this is an older post but I am placing info here in case anyone ever looks for them. McMaster-Carr carries them. They are called "Quick-Release Button Connectors for Telescoping Tubing".
