I'm a coil cover kinda guy. No sense in scratching it up if you don't have to.

its stupid and careless not to use one in my opinion, and I'm a pretty stupid and careless guy myself. The only draw back is some can trap dirt and need cleaned out. I just sealed mine onto my coil with plasti dip.

Use a coil cover. If you sell the machine/coil in the future it makes a huge difference. If you spray stuff on your coil, nobody will want to buy it. :skullflag:

what about the spray on bed liner or something similar ?. would it have any affect on the coil ? this instead of the snap on covers ?

i use plasti dip to seal the coil cover on because its easily removed in the future. truck bed liner seems like overkill and if it ever has a problem it wont be easy to get off, if you can remove it at all.

Just use a scuff cover. :skullflag:

I would use a scuff cover, it's very cheap insurance for protection of an expensive search coil! :icon_thumleft:

Just periodically remove and clean coil and cover.

thanks guys for the info , I finally went with a cover , a home made cover ,used a thin piece of Plexiglas , just cut out the outside shape of the coil I have and then drilled a few holes holding it on with zip ties for some reason I cant load a pic....but I think this will be good for me as I don't really rake the ground but just in case of those times I might hit something

I had an Ace 250 for about 6 years, the last 4 years of that I had a 10 x 14 Excelerator coil with a cover, no problems. Four years ago I bought an ATPro with a cover, after about a month the cover started cracking and then would catch on grass and finally broke apart. So I bought another coil cover and the same thing happened, in a month or so the cover cracked and then would catch on stuff like high grass. Now I just paint the bottom of the coil with plastic pipe cement. Lasts pretty good, and I just touch it up once in a while.

Scuff covers are cheap compared to coils and do NOT detract from detecting ability -- so why not use them?

I've been detecting for 36 years and have never used a coil cover. I have had absolutely no problem with coil damage. Just another way to get you to spend your money.

I believe it depends on where you hunt. If your hunting in rocky areas and river beds, then yes get a coil cover, but if your hunting fields, parks, schools, woods and yards, then I do not see the need. If the coil I get has one I use it if not oh well, not going to buy one.
