I was going through a pile of rocks that my grandfather, who passed away in 2001, had collected from places across the United States during his travels in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. There were dozens of them, but one really stood out.

The first thing that caught my attention was its weight compared to its size. It is a little less than two pounds. I tried to stick a magnet to it, and it did not stick - it actually pushed the magnet away. I have an old Ace 150 and it went crazy. However, it did not register as iron as expected, but bounced between nickel and zinc. I don't want to try and slice it open; I don't have the propert tools to do that anyway.

I sent an e-mail to the geology department at LSU. Don't know if they will respond.

Ifound a small crater, that I think could have been made by a meteorite, it is about 80 feet long and 30 feet wide and about 4 feet deep. It can come a 5 inch rain and the crater does not hold water. I have a strong magnetic field underground in the area. Has anyone found anything like this?

Any standing trees around the crater? Any guess as to its age? If you really think it was caused by an extraterrestrial rock, you need to notify the local rock-people. TTC
