    Possibly something like this?

HISTORY OF A BECK: Magnetic rock found in the Stainton gravel beds.

Maybe it was a frag of ballast stone?
    Interesting, whatever it may be.

The pictured rock is a magnetic basalt. Not at all uncommon. I have encountered many magnetic basalts in the western US over the years. Not every magnetic rock is a meteorite.
