Guatemala trip....w/more pics
out of the country that is... I'll be in Guatemala for the next 2 weeks. It's a beautiful country, but stricken bad with poverty. I should be able to get online while I'm there an post some pictures. I also will be making a short trip into Honduras to visit some ancient Mayan ruins. My metal detector will have to stay behind here in Michigan. You guys enjoy the snow here, I'll be near the equator during the dry season with no possibilty of rain. later, Griff

Have a great trip!
Would I be a spoil sport if I wished just a little sunburn on you?
We will hold the snow and ice down for you while you are gone!
Best of Luck,
Mark

Ok, I know "keeping the snow down" sounds generous, but it's not like I have a choice, is it?
Have a great trip! Hey, maybe instead of holding the snow down we could just send it down there? Wouldn't that be nice"
Enjoy the warmth!

Hey brother, have a great time and see you in a couple weeks when you get back. I'll probably take your advice and hit those sledding hills this weekend and see what I can find..

Re: heading out
just a quick update, hot like a mug at least 90 in the shade everyday. sunburned nice and toasty. we are building a house up in the mountains and have about an hour ride each way up and down the mountain. about 12 of us standing up in the back of a pick up truck and it is not a smooth ride. should have the walls done tomorrow and start on the roof. because of our delay getting started, the trip to the Mayan ruinds was tossed out. we are also handing out food and school supplies to some of the remote villages. I included a pic of an officer that pulled us over to check our paper work, look at the gun on this guy. heres a couple pics of the scenery, you can see in the one from the worksite its hazy looking cause we were actually in a cloud. I'll add some more pics later in the week

Re: heading out ...UPDATED w/ pics
Cool pictures. I have never seen a house built that way. It must not seem like a vacation laying block all day in that kind of heat. I can see why the officer looks so happy they have him standing out in the sun with a black uniform. . Thank's for sharing.

Re: heading out ...UPDATED w/ pics
tomorrow is my last day here, will be flying home arriving in the evening. with work being finished we spent today relaxing, sight-seeing, and shopping in the market place in Antigua. this place is so beautiful and there is tons of history. I have lots of great pictures, but will just post a few. One of the house almost complete, I never took a picture at the end for some reason. a couple of pics of scenery (volcanoes everywhere) you can see one shooting off a bit. Also, I took a picture (the one with the arch and the volcano) and then took a picture of a picture that was taken over a hundered years ago in the same spot. another pic of an armed gaurd (this one in a gas station, but they had them at McDonalds and Subway too) I also picked up a few coins at a local antique dealer. I payed 100Q's (equivalent of $12.45 american) for these four coins. had to laugh when I saw the barber quarter. anyway thanks for looking all, I'll try and bring home some thaw.

Man brother, thats awesome. The house looks great and the history there is making me envy you!! Looks like the locals there are ready for anything...short barreled shotgun and the old hog leg in the front pocket with reloaders off the left hip,,,,amazing!! Makes you wonder what lurks at night... Get home safe and lets hit the woods...Those pictures amazing!!!

Great pics again! Really unique opportunity for you to help out over there.
Looks like the area is patrolled by a cartel? Just wondering why the heavy-duty weaponry.
See ya back soon in the States!

Re: Guatemala trip....w/more pics
thanks everyone, the trip was great. it was my third time and probably not my last. Since we had a delay (snow in Dallas ) the trip into Honduras to see the Mayan ruins was tossed out to make up the time to do the work, which was a bummer but maybe next time.
FFD, I didnt see any cartel that I'm aware of, lots of policia and military though. The scenery with the mountains and volcanos are amazing, and I love looking at all the historical sites dreaming of what lurks inches below the surface. this is gonna be a good year for detecting. HH all

Re: Guatemala trip....w/more pics
Wow those are some great pictures. That must have been a pretty interesting trip. Some of those buildings are beautiful. I'll
bet the ground around there would have some great and valuable antique mixture of stuff.
Thanks for sharing.
