siamese mauser

A friend gave me a siamese mauser (unrestored or altered). Any guesses on a value? ( sorry my camera isn't working)
I know the ammo is obsolete, so what do I do with it? (besides wall hanger)

Those were produced around 1903-1910 or so? (I may be a little off on when production ceased)
The Siamese mausers were made in Japan for Siam in two calibers, the 8x50R and the 8x52R.

They were referred to colloquially as "Type 45" and as you stated the rounds are obsolete so shooting it would be cost prohibitive unless you reload.

They have some collector value, so I wouldn't alter it or shoot it.

Pictures and condition would help for determination of value.

Preserving it, with a light coat of gun oil including bore would be good. If you value friend or rifle save it. Local gunshop can give appraisal (after your research to c.y.butt) and may sell on consignment.

I tried to step up and be a man, to offer information that i knew on a legitimate question and he is being a petulant child, transferring his disagreement with me on issues to other topics.

I didn,t ask, about why you seem behind,BUT and honestly i found myself behind both of you a couple times when checking out current topics.

Search the internet.You can have it made.Or you can build a nice 45 70 out of it.This is fairly simple because this is an odd mauser with the same rimmed case head dia as 45 70....Osage

It is also known to have a strong action. I have seen them not only in 45-70, but .444 Marlin, and even in the original chamberings, they make a very adequate hunting rifle. But as Critical stated they do have some collector value if in good original condition.

On an original military rifle, shiny isn't always better. Like all vintage items, collectors like patina.

In reality, probably more than you would want to spend. To build a 45 70 you would need a barrel [45 cal], chambering reamers, headspace gages, engine lathe,and a lot of time and patience. A barrel would probably cost about 150.00-250.00,the other tools and machinery would be your main cost,it is cheaper to pay a gunsmith to do the labor and add in the parts cost.A sporterized mauser is one of the neatest and most reliable guns you will ever own,I hate to say it but the Germans beat us here.
