Can someone help me ID this Japanese Sword?

I found this sword at an antique shop. I think they're asking too much for it and was wondering if anyone can help ID the time period (WWI? WWII? earlier?) and what the inscriptions say. Is there anything special about this sword? The scabbard is wood covered in simple leather and there is some pitting in the blade.

Thanks for your help!

Only way to really tell is to take the handle apart. Its most likely japanese army issue.Genuine katanas, the sword makers name was on the handle along with the tameshigiri meaning body cutting, test cutting.

It appears to be a Chinese copy of a Shingunto...

Can't see the whole thing, but as far as I know, only the naval swords have the catch to keep it in the scabbard. Iron tsuba, leather wrapped scabbard, without knowing the maker all I see is 5 to 7 hundred.
