Can anyone give a circa for this US military patch?

This seems to be a US Marine Sergeant patch.

My father-in-law has had in his collection of stuff for many years.

Can anyone tell when it's from?

I included a pic of the back because I know that the stitching could provide a clue.

Truly ironic. Literally about an hour before you posted I visited this thread to see if there were any responses that I happened to have missed.

As for that forum, I just learned of it about two weeks ago while researching another item. It never occurred to me to join and ask about this one. Thanks for that!

I had some just like those back in the 70's when in the USMC. Sergeant E-5 . Looks like for the Khaki uniform shirt. If they were red, would be for dress blues
