A friend of mine who I introduced to metal detecting showed me a solid shot cannonball that her Dad found near the Civil War Fort called Thunderbolt which was a Confederate defense of Savannah. Her Dad was digging a hole to plant a tree when he uncovered this ball. It is cast iron and measures 7 inches and weighs about 20 pounds. Anybody have any ideas which cannon would have fire such a cannonball? That's a quarter next to it.
