This item has already been cleaned...
Actually a bit more than I would have liked but I was hoping to find some sort of marking. It was found in close proximity to many second Seminole War artifacts.
There is actually still wood left inside.
After I removed the dirt clod.. I saw what appeared to be wood still inside of it.. It had what appeared to be the remains of orange paint that within seconds oxidized into these colors before my eyes.
I was thinking possibly a flag mast cap.. But I am really not sure I could use some suggestions.

Civil War Rifle Cartridge

Well it was found in Florida.. Where there was no action during the Civil War.
It was found near Second Seminole War artifacts from before the Civil War. 1835-1842.
Would a rifle cartridge have had wood inside of it?

These guys were using round balls and Flint lock muskets. No percussion caps to speak of or rifles

Looks like the base of a flag staff, or a cane tip. Is that a lead tip on the closed end?

It didn't patina like lead.
It looked a lot like the pewter buttons from the same soil.

It does doesn't it.
There were homesteads in the area after the fort there definitely could have been.
I'm talking about a small area here and these items very close to one another.. But I would have to say that is possible

That looks like a chair leg from a chair made in 40-50's to me.
