Id say either the lid to a snuff box, or a coin purse top.

Here is an old 1920s Whiting & Davis coin purse I found a few years ago. You can see the door plate and the hinge ring separated in the photo.

I agree with Tejaas that it could be a snuff box lid or a coin purse though I am leaning toward coin purse. I am thinking it could be from the Columbian World Exposition of 1893 possibly. Just a guess though. Good find.
