You live in Virginia? Start at one end of your property and detect towards the other end, you will find stuff everywhere.

Dig everywhere. Watch out for snakes AND ticks. Use a handheld gps device when you start finding stuff.

if you see any long ditches they might be trenches also look for any (Bullet) damage on the wall or just envision what the optimal place to defend and assault the position would be to you and check there.

I just started metal detecting. I live on a farm in Virginia, where a lot of Civil War activity took place. I have found an old stone wall in my woods that appears to be from the Civil War times. It is on top of a small mountain overlooking a large valley. Any tips on hunting such areas near stone walls.

i'd be glad to come there and help you detect. bring 3 detectors and a bunch of other stuff. i am sure many of us on here would help out. :icon_thumleft:

this is the best advice. just get out there and start swinging a detector. just be careful how you dig things up so you dont damage the relics. u see youtube videos where people dig like the are trying to kill a cat stabbing wildly at the ground with the shovel. dont do that. damage relics.
