Hi - Does anyone know if the small piece of metal in my photo might’ve been part of a Civil War uniform or item of equipment? Due to the rough top edge, it may have broken off from a larger piece. I first thought it might be from the bottom of a shoe because of the two nail holes. But I doubt that now since the metal is too thin (about 1/16th inch) to take much punishment. Thanks

Hard to tell, but the tapered holes suggests it was screwed on to a piece of wood with wood screws.

Thanks, creskol. The two holes are indeed tapered or beveled, which I didn't consider before. Every bit of info helps, so thanks again.

My guess is a heel plate for a brogan.
